Carolyn Schmidt is a Vancouver Island born Contemporary Dance Artist and Educator. She received her formal training at The School of Alberta Ballet, University of Calgary Contemporary Dance Program, and The Ailey School where she is a graduate of the Certificate Program. A lifelong student of dance, Carolyn has studied and continues to study with many respected teachers around the globe. Carolyn is co-director of VAULT movement projects  - a platform for cutting edge education for dance, movement and fitness professionals. 

As a performer Carolyn has performed in a variety of works across Canada and the United States. She has performed work by both emerging and established choreographers including Camille A. Brown, Kevin Wynn, Fredrick Earl Mosley, Jen Cole, Myola Pautler, Jamee Valin and Patricia Allison. Carolyn has performed internationally in Burgos, Spain at the International Choreography Competition in 2008 where she danced in pieces created by Aranxta Sagardoy (Compania Plan B) and Amaury Lebrun (Amaury Dance Company). Carolyn has also worked with companies including The MoveShop (NYC), Triadic Dance Works (Vancouver) and 49th Parallel Dance Company (NYC).



As a choreographer, Carolyn’s dance works have graced stages large and small in both Canada and the United States including Symphony Space (NYC), Webster Hall (NYC), Manhattan Movement and Arts Center (NYC), Dancers Studio West (Calgary), The Westerbury Theatre (Edmonton, AB), The Beaumont Studios (Vancouver, BC) and Scotiabank Dance Centre (Vancouver). Her choreography has been presented and/or supported by Dumbo Dance Festival, Young Choreographers Festival, Alberta Dance Alliance, Vancouver Fringe Festival, Mascall Dance "BLOOM", Jennifer Muller/The Works "HATCH" series, and Project CPR/Restless Productions. Carolyn was co-producer of a performance series in Vancouver called To.Be.Announced from 2013-2016. 



As an instructor and educator of dance, Carolyn has taught for many studios and pre-professional programs in Canada. In Carolyn's class you will sweat, learn about your body and express yourself. Carolyn loves sharing her knowledge with enthusiastic young dancers, professionals and beginning adults alike. "My goal as a teacher is to empower students to use their instrument fully and with awareness, for the greatest personal expression on the stage and in real life."

When not doing dance things - Carolyn can be found stretching people and helping humans move better through her work as a Fascial Stretch Therapist (FST). Carolyn and her husband Cian Dalton own a business in Kitsilano called The Stretch Space. You can find more about their work here
